Students of MIC's MScMET programme won the Third Prize in the One-armed
Swordsman Competition. Patrick Ip, Otto Wong, Teresa Tse and Yiu Ho Yin
added new elements to the legendary movie in the 70s. Their work is the
only animation created by HK students winning an award this time. More.

Ezone reported
that MScMET graduation Screening this year showcased outstanding works
of students with great marketing potential, most of which was completed
in a short period of time (3 months). Examples include "Auroral Snare",
an exciting 3D Online RPG action game developed by Roger Tang, Vincent
Lam, Steven Yuen and Teresa Tse and an interactive movie with human sensors
(IMS) produced by Mimi Chan. Students said they have greatly benefited
from the programme, learning how to communicate and work effectively with
designers and technical people and exchanging ideas with experienced lecturers
from the industry. Graduate employment is also a highly satisfactory rate
of 90%.

PC Market reported
that MIC is training up talents for the digital entertainment industry.
Their MScMET (MSc in Multimedia & Entertainment Technology) students
of this year received lots of awards, e.g. "Soccer Ref." is the Best TV/PC
Entertainment Software of the 2nd Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence
Award (HKDEEA) (Open Category). The MScMET Graduation Gallery is held
at MIC (1/F, Core P, HK PolyU ) until 5 November, showing various outstanding
Final Projects including games, animation and films. Mr. Yim Chun Pang,
MIC Lecturer, commented that students have developed high quality games
with the use of MIC's Mini-Scale Multiplayer Online Game Platform) and
motion capture facilities.

PC Weekly reported that the Graduation
Screening and Gallery of the MScMET programme showcases the best digital
entertainment products developed by local students. The magazine interviewed
two groups of our students. With the use of the MIC's specially-designed
Mini-Scale Multiplayer Online Development Platform (MSMOG),
Roger Tang, Steven Yuen, Vincent Lam and Teresa Tse were able to create
"Auroral Snare", an exciting 3D online action game, in as short as three
months. The other project "Our Prospects" created by Patrick Li and Matthew
Ngai is an impressive animation presenting the dilemma always facing animators

Ltd". The three young people started their own business right after their
graduation last year and are glad to see that it is growing steadily.

Dr. Gino Yu, Associate Professor & Head of MIC, anticipated that the
21st century will be a cross-disciplinary era of traditional media, modern
electronics and online media. The new media industry has an excellent
prospect with the rapidly advancing technology in internet, broadband
and mobile communication. As Hong Kong is the capital of entertainment
in Asia, Dr. Yu said industries such as TV, films, commercials, internet
and games are all desperately seeking for talents with creativity and
digital media knowledge.

Daily reported that MSc students won the third prize of the One-armed
Swordsman Animation Competition organized by Celestial Pictures. They
shared the joy in animation production. MIC has started offering training
in animation, digital filmmaking and game design a few years ago. Its
Digital Animator training course commencing this October is open for application
now. One of the instructors is Mr. John Sinarwi, a very experienced animator
and teacher in the field, who was formerly teacher of Mr Ramen Hui.

Co. Ltd.", which is cited as one of the successful stories for young
people starting their own business by Jiu
Jik. They also thanked MIC for expanding their network with the industry

In an article featuring digital entertainment
industry published in Hi-Tech Weekly, MIC was cited as a leading training
and R & D centre for the industry. The Centre not only offers an MSc
in Multimedia & Entertainment Technology to produce talents in digital
media, animation, video games / online entertainment and electronic interactive
toys, but also works on a number of cutting-edge research projects which
are subsidised by the Government's ITF. Recently MIC orderd an EEG system
to analyse scientifically the brain activities of human beings when playing
games.
Four MSc graduates were interviewed for their story of successfully setting
up their own game design company, "Mocha Multimedia Co., Ltd.".
MIC's good network with the local industry has been a great help to them.

the successful story of our four MSc graduates. Jason Mok, Samuel Siu,
Eric Lam and Patrick Chan, set up their own mobile game design company
"Mocha Multimedia
Co. Ltd" in October last year, just a month after their graduation.
They are happy to see their growing business and thanked MIC for equipping
them with the knowledge and skills in game design.

Students. Jack said those interested to become an animator must have "HEART":
